Updating Kernel CentOS 7

Read the complete article and know the simple steps to update the kernel in CentOS 7 easily.

To update the kernel in CentOS 7 is very simple.

Note: This article applies to CentOS 7. Clients with CentOS 6 or cPanel installed should read this article.

1. Update the kernel

  • Type: yum update
  • Answer yes to all the questions (if there are no updates available this will also be displayed in which case there's no need to reboot below).

It will display something similar to this:

Running Transaction
Installing : kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64 1/2
Cleanup : kernel-2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64 2/2
Verifying : kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64 1/2
Verifying : kernel-2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64 2/2

Removed:
kernel.x86_64 0:2.6.32-431.29.2.el6

Installed:
kernel.x86_64 0:2.6.32-504.23.4.el6

Complete!
root@vps [/etc]#

Reboot your server:

  • Type: reboot
